‘Paperweight’ is a collaborative project between Bianca Chang and Benja Harney. It consists of two bronze cones that use gravity, and the heft of gunmetal, to pinch sheet material together enabling shades of varying sizes, shapes and folding techniques.
Two paper artists and designers from Sydney, were invited to interpret ‘Paperweight’ in their own practice. The works completed so far have revealed two very different, yet compelling, approaches to the medium and craft.
Bianca’s refined pleats are resolved by precise mathematics and set from the angles of the bronze cones, whilst Benja’s geometric, technical forms, break away from the conical starting point to explore new shapes.
Timber Angle Poise
Timber lamp conversion is the last in a three part series of design revisits.
Using the the left over components of the previous lamp frames, Doctor Rodney Hayward engineered the exquisite replacement armature in timber. The attention to detail includes hollow arms guiding the cord internally through the structure.
Ceramic Work Light
Ceramic work light is a continuation of henry's work readapting classics. In this case it is the humble work / cage lamp. (The ones chosen are made in Germany to the best EU spec) In this addition / alteration a bone china sleeve or shade softens and directs the light. The rim of the porcelain is 'dipped' in a clear glaze and can be hooked up on its edge to reveal more light. This function can be seen in the images.
